An Australian who claimed a spider led him to kidnap and rape a woman has been jailed for eight years. Philip Spiers admitted the 1997 attack but said a funnel-web spider was really to blame.Spiers told New South Wales State District Court that a bite from the spider had left him with a viral illness which led to his actions.A toxicologist said there was no evidence that a spider bite could be responsible for anger and hatred.
